Jesus G. Tarango, Jr. currently serves as the Chairman of Wilton Rancheria. He was first elected to Wilton Rancheria’s Tribal Council in 2016, where he quickly earned a reputation as an unbiased, people-focused leader. His commitment to transparency led to his appointment as Tribal Council Spokesperson, followed by his election as Vice Chairman in 2018. Two years later, he was elected Chairman, becoming the youngest to hold the position. Under his leadership, Wilton Rancheria has established itself as a leader in sustainable development, cultural preservation, and community partnership. The Tribe operates Sky River Casino, holds majority ownership of Sacramento Republic FC, and continues expanding its influence in regional economic development. Jesus studied ethnic studies at Sacramento State and, prior to his political career, managed a multi-million-dollar FedEx hub as one of the company’s most awarded supervisors. He led more than 500 team members and guided operations through the COVID-19 pandemic until his election as Chairman in June 2020. He was born and raised in Sacramento, California, his traditional homeland as a Miwok and Nisenan Tribal member. Born into traditional song and dance, he has continued dancing alongside his brothers and sisters into adulthood. He is a devoted husband and father of six children, to whom he instills traditional Tribal and community values.
